Volunteering
Volunteers play an important part in the care and development of Gawthorpe Textiles Collection. By giving their time, skills and enthusiasm, they help us to care for the Collection, improve access to it and support our wider programme of activity.
Our volunteers work closely with the Curator and wider team on a variety of tasks, which may include:
- Organising and safely storing objects
- Supporting collections care and preventative conservation
- Researching and documenting objects
- Digitising collection records
- Preparing materials for study visits, talks and workshops
- Helping with exhibitions, events and public activities
- Supporting general administration and behind-the-scenes work
Volunteering offers an opportunity to gain practical experience of working with a museum collection, develop new skills and learn more about textiles and craft. It is also a valuable way to meet others and contribute to the future of this internationally significant Collection.
Opportunities vary depending on the needs of the Collection and the projects underway. We welcome interest from people with a wide range of backgrounds, interests and experience. Where possible, tasks can be matched to your skills and what you would like to learn.
