Gawthorpe Textile Collection is the operating name of the independent registered charity The Rachel Kay-Shuttleworth Textile Collections (1182054), caring for a nationally and internationally significant collection of over 30,000 textiles and craft objects spanning five centuries.
Founded by Rachel Kay-Shuttleworth and established as a public collection in 1959, the Collection is used by researchers, artists, students and community groups from across the UK and beyond. Through exhibitions, workshops, study visits and learning programmes, we believe access to collections can support creativity, knowledge, wellbeing and opportunity for all.
As a charity, we rely on the generosity of our supporters to help care for the Collection, preserve textile heritage, and continue making the Collection accessible to the public for generations to come.
Your support helps us to:
- Care for the Collection to museum standards
- Preserve historic textiles and craft objects for future generations
- Provide access for researchers, artists, students and visitors
- Deliver workshops, learning programmes and community activities
- Support creativity, wellbeing and skills development through making
There are many ways to support Gawthorpe Textile Collection, whether through a one-off donation, regular giving, or sponsoring an object from the Collection. Every contribution helps secure the future of this extraordinary Collection and the stories, skills and creativity it represents.
